LSU Tiger Park

It’s been named to 50 for 50: A Celebration of LSU Sports, as one of the greatest things about Tiger athletics by Pulitzer Prize winning author Jeff Marx. And it’s quickly become one the best, most family-oriented events in the Baton Rouge area.

“The Celebrity/Sorta Celebrity Softball Game” is played in the spirit of M-TV’s “Rock N Jock” softball affair, which the network aired back in the late 80’s  and early 90’s. This contest gathers some of Louisiana’s most well-known athletes and personalities to participate in an entertaining, light hearted affair to benefit Louisiana military.

Attendees have included Troy Landry and Bruce Mitchell from the smash-hit reality TV show “Swamp People”, along with NFL stars like Joe Addai, Devery Henderson, Joe Horn, Kevin Faulk, Bradie James, Randall “Blue” Gay, Reuben Randle, Brandon LaFell, KeKe Mingo and Glenn Dorsey. NBA favorites like Glenn “Big Baby” Davis, Marcus Thornton and Brandon Bass have also donated their time, along with LSU baseball legends like Ben McDonald, Warren Morris, Ryan Theriot, and Blake Dean. LSU coaches such as Paul Mainieri, Nikki Caldwell & Johnny Jones have also donated their time to the game, with Southern University being well-represented by legendary head baseball coach Roger Cador, head football coach Dawson Odums and men’s head basketball coach Roman Banks.

The game has consistently drawn between 1,000-1,500 fans and been televised in the Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette area by The Pelican Network. All of the participating players stick around for autographs and pictures after the final pitch, truly making it a wonderful experience for all.
